The avian influenza virus is one of the deadliest in the world and has taken many lives over the past century and a half. This virus is better known as avian influenza and is derived from a virus of bird flu. When there is an outbreak of avian influenza virus, a large number of poultry, including chickens and ducks to be slaughtered to prevent the spread of the virus beyond the poultry and the human realm.

Prevention of this disease

There are several ways to prevent this particular disease to occur in chickens and other poultry. First, the virus is usually spread by native birds that are generally immune to the virus of avian influenza. Most poultry stocks are not high this immunity, and so when they come into contact with native birds, they can catch the virus and it spread throughout the herd. This is probably the most common reason how the virus spreads.

To avoid this problem, the owners of the farm must do everything in their power to prevent any contact outside of other birds with their livestock. This is one reason why the chicken farmers choose to keep their chickens in cages because they are afraid that their herd can be infected by the virus if it is not bird flu, but another deadly disease that could destroy their flock.

How bird flu

The avian influenza virus is a strain of flu that seems to affect only avian species or birds. So why is it that there were so many dead people associated with avian influenza? The answer is that this is infact not the avian influenza virus currently infecting humans, but a mutation of the virus. What actually happens is the virus mutates in the human strain of flu that is deadly cool. Of course, this does not always happen but when it does, it can be catastrophic.

Throughout history there have been several cases of avian influenza that have been known to have killed hundreds of thousands of people. The latter emerging South-East Asia, where there were several deaths due to avian influenza virus. Many experts believe that the scariest thing of avian influenza is that it is so deadly, but it has the potential to spread so quickly and perhaps to the point where it can become uncontrollable. Anyway, people should do their utmost to prevent it from happening in the first place.
