Canine Diabetes

There are three types of canine diabetes. They include sweet, insipid, and gestational diabetes. The most common is diabetes mellitus. Take a look at these three forms of diabetes dog.

Diabetes mellitus

Canine diabetes is a condition in which the body of your dog is either insensitive to insulin or does not produce enough. Insulin, which is secreted by the pancreas, is responsible for glucose regulation. The symptoms of diabetes include increased urination canine and thirst, dehydration and loss of appetite.

The main treatment of this form is a day or twice daily injection of insulin. You will also need to change your dog's diet. A diet rich in protein and fiber is usually preferable. Your dog will need less carbohydrates and fats. It is also important that the dog with diabetes mellitus is a lot of exercise.

Diabetes insipidus

Canine Diabetes insipidus is a condition characterized by the inability of your dog to hold water. This rare disease occurs in two forms, namely central and nephrogenic. The central form occurs when the pituitary gland does not produce enough of the antidiuretic hormone vasopressin called. Canine Central diabetes insipidus may be caused by congenital malformation or disease of the pituitary or hypothalamus. It can be treated with desmopressin as nose drops, eye drops, or injections.

The form of nephrogenic diabetes insipidus occurs when the kidneys are not sensitive to vasopressin secreted by the pituitary gland. This condition can be caused by medications, kidney disease, kidney trauma, or congenital malformations. It is usually treated with anti-inflammatory and diuretic.

Gestational

The last form of canine diabetes is the gestational variety that occurs only during pregnancy. This condition occurs when the female's body does not produce enough insulin or does not use insulin properly. The dogs of this form of canine diabetes exhibit the same symptoms as dogs with diabetes mellitus. Gestational diabetes can be treated with proper diet, exercise and insulin injections. The condition usually disappears after she gave birth to its scope.
