Carboxyhemoglobin Test

Posted on February 28, 2010.
Carboxyhemoglobin TestCan anyone tell me the procedure is an analysis of arterial blood (ABG) and if so, how different test?

Test of carboxyhemoglobin is there a difference of two test? and if so, how does the procedure differ, thank you

A blood test measuring carbon monoxide levels of carboxyhemoglobin. Carbon monoxide (CO) is a colorless, odorless, poisonous gas that binds to hemoglobin in red blood cells much more strongly than oxygen. Hemoglobin that comes into contact with carbon monoxide is converted to carboxyhemoglobin.

This test is performed when the carbon monoxide poisoning is suspected, either because of a history of exposure to gas or cause symptoms such as headaches, dizziness, muscle weakness, nausea, problems Judgement, vision problems, and drowsiness. However, it is often difficult to tell the severity of poisoning based on symptoms alone.

An arterial blood gas (ABG) test measures levels of oxygen and carbon dioxide in the blood to determine how well your lungs work. It assesses the ability of your lungs to move oxygen into the blood and remove carbon dioxide in the blood.

An ABG test uses blood from an artery, where levels of oxygen and carbon dioxide can be measured before they enter the tissues of the body and change clothes.

An ABG measures:

1. partial pressure of oxygen (PaO2).
2. Partial pressure of carbon dioxide (PaCO2).
3. pH.
4. Bicarbonate (HCO3).
5. The oxygen content (O2CT) and oxygen saturation (O2Sat) values.

An arterial blood gas (ABG) test is done to:

1. assessment of severe breathing problems and lung diseases such as asthma, cystic fibrosis, or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. It can also be used to monitor the treatment of problems that affect breathing.
2. Assess your need for supplemental oxygen or assistance with breathing (mechanical ventilation).
3. you are entitled to use oxygen at home.
4. Measuring the level of acid-base in heart or kidney failure, uncontrolled diabetes, sleep disorders, drug overdose, or severe infections.
5. Detecting exposure to carbon monoxide and other chemicals.

I hope this information is useful for you.

GBS does not measure the carboxyhemoglobin. Only a test that measures it. An ABG measures pH, oxygen content, the content of carbon dioxide, bicarb, O2 saturation, and the ratio of arterial blood. They can tell the doctor if you are in acidosis (a diabetic) or alkalosis. ABG can say that the physician you are low in oxygen. So, hope that helps. measures carboxyhemoglobin if you have a carbon monoxide poisoning, as faulty heating appliances.

GBS is arterial gases. It detects the concentration of oxygen and carbon dioxide in the blood and the pH (acidity) of blood, which is very relevant in congestive heart failure, respiratory failure, etc.
