Crohn's Diet

Posted on February 17, 2010.
Crohn's DietWhat is an ideal diet for a person with Crohn's disease?

My husband is 37 and has had Crohn's disease for about 15 years. He has suffered more recent, and notes that most food that is healthy stomach hurts (fruits, vegetables, red meat, etc.) Does anyone know of a healthy diet (or use) which has improved their state (or someone they know )???? (Her doctor suggested aggressive treatments such as remecade, but our insurance does not cover enough costs to allow us)

I am sorry that your husband has this awful disease .. It is therefore difficult to determine a diet for a person with Crohn's, because each person is different. I'm like your husband and I can not eat fresh fruits, vegetables, whole milk and red meat. The best thing he can do is keep a food diary. I can usually tolerate potatoes, cheese, crackers, peanut butter, chicken bland, baked fish, shrimp .. I can eat hamburger meat as long as I get one with the least fat. I also tolerate ground turkey instead of ground meat - and i cannot really taste much difference. I am currently on any medication every day. I take a couple if needed. I was on Remicade and they offer a program for ppl who can not afford as indicated in a post above ..

Hello, I'm PT A Crohn female. for 28 years. dxed at the age of 12 years.
I can totally relate to eat and pain during flaring.

I attended a local Crohn's and Colitis Foundation educational meeting and the dietician told us to try the canned fruit / vegetables because it is much easier to digest.

Like Remicade, the drug company that makes it a program for people who can not afford it.

The CCFA has a website where you can find more information on feeding, new treatments such as Remicade, Humira (they have a great program to help those who can not afford it, I was on it for a time), 6MP, Imuran, and Entocor, surgery, locating a local support chapter, while providing a live chat and phone run by health experts knowledgeable in IBD (Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis). There is also an open forum where you can ask questions to other people who have Crohn's disease.

Check if your husband is a candidate for Entocort, Humira, 6MP, etc. Request samples b / c of drug representatives to file a lot to promote their product. I asked for samples in the past and has been given for a whole month.

Also, your husband is entitled to relieve pain. Ask the IM, it can be a antispasmatic BENTYL as for his stomach, a muscle relaxant and a narcotic such as Demerol, Tylenol 3, Darvocet, etc. I am sure each of them to help me pass Through the rockets until I can be seen by the IM. If it's a lock, then I get to the ER STAT.

My heart goes out to you and your husband. I wish him a long-lived remission. Good luck to you.

Hello, let me again express my condolences to your husband.
I had a Crohn's disease since I was 11 and I am now 34 and I go to the hospital in the UK Top for my condition Yet even they tell me I'm what they call a case chronic and difficult.
Therefore, I thought I might be able to offer at least one opinion on a subject I know so much about!
Firstly, I could go on the foods I can and can not tolerate, but even that is so subjective and vary so much from one to another sfferer it would not really help I think.
There are foods that do not seem to come all the time so I will confirm some of those for you and recommend it to avoid them, but I think it may already be doing it as he had Crohn's disease for so long Himself ...
The foods most often written about and listed "problem":
Onions
Mos.
