How diabetes affects a person who has one kidney? Diabetes runs in my family and I fear that I could get it. I recently discovered that I was born with one kidney. I havent talked to a doctor yet, but I'm curious. A person with one kidney and diabetes live a normal life?
Diabetes affects only the kidneys if you do not control your blood sugar. So if you eat well and take your medicine, you can live life like everyone else!
I work in a renal dialysis unit so that I can say one thing diabetes is the leading cause of kidney failure and you only have one. So you watch very closely and no sign of problems to go see a doctor and head to the neck, if you can.
Well, first, with only one kidney has a prognosis or a normal life (I know because my son was born with one kidney, so I did some research, unless there no other abnormalities, life is the same as anyone else).
We can not be said for diabetes, it does shorten the lifespan by a few if not controlled, if you have one or both kidneys. The best thing to do if you have a family history of diabetes is to eat well, exercise regularly, keep your weight within normal range and see your doctor regularly to check on you so that you minimize the risk develops and catch it early to start treatment if it is unavoidable.
