Disabled Grab Rails

Disabled Grab RailsThe Importance of Correct toilet facilities for disabled

As a disabled person, I find it disturbing that many hotels, restaurants and shops that offer disabled WC facilities are not only failing in their duties under the Disability Discrimination Act but are in fact put people disabilities at risk of accident or injury.

Disabled toilet facilities have very specific needs in the DDA. These requirements are not empty words on the rules above and regulations implemented by those upstairs in the government.

A disabled WC compartment has to meet the needs of all disabled people and offer transfer both on and off the WC for wheelchair users. The serious lack of facilities such as drop down grab bars and support rails not only allows the use of these facilities difficult if not impossible, it makes them dangerous and puts the disabled person as being at risk. Moreover it is now offering this service charge and finally to blame should any claim of injury arise!

The rules of disabled toilets and facilities offered are extensive and should never be installed without professional instruction or advice.

In addition to the safety of installing such facilities must be remembered that the DDA requires that for reasons of personal hygiene, it is important that the bathroom accessories such as sinks, soap dispensers, toilet paper and towels everything should be installed and easily accessible to a person in a wheelchair and toilet in a sitting position. Emergency cords must meet specific requirements and be accessible to both the toilet while sitting and immediate floor area.

The above keys on the many requirements of disabled toilet facilities, they are numerous and must be in place and correctly fitted to offer those using these facilities safety and those who provide protection services in If a claim against them in case of accident.

Perhaps the needs of disabled people wont make those responsible think, I think not even 64 billion pound per year spending power to make them believe, but maybe, just maybe the threat of court settlement mass should an accident result?
