Dog Joint Pain

Posted on February 5, 2010.
Dog Joint PainWhat to do when the dog has pain and swelling?

My brothers dog (American Bulldog), one of its joints is markedly swollen and it hurts here and there. It hurts for him to put weight on it. I was put on ice and my brother, he hopes to do the vet quickly. It has been contained and still wagging the tail here and there. I was wondering if there was a good home remedy we can give him for pain and swelling. Any great solutions?

You want to put the heat on the town duing the day and ice on the area at night.
The dog is obviously in pain and needs major help.
Until it is seen by a veterinarian who works with blood, he can not get systemic medications to manage his pain.
Without blood work even buffered aspirin unsafe.
It's horrible.
The longer this goes untreated injuries and more damage occurred in this county.

Your brother should go to the CareCredit website and request a credit line that can be used on veterinary care.

First supplement that the dog will likely develop arthritis in the affected joints.
SynoviG3, Cosequin, Arthroplex, promotion are all good choices for supplements glucosamine chondroitin / which reduces inflammation and prevents further damage to the cartilage / joints.
The omega fatty acids (omega-3) also work to inflammation and death vaierty have additional benefits on the eyes, heart, brain, skin, coat and cell function.

Glucosamine / chondroitin and omega will work well with NSAID once the dog comes to a veterinarian and get the proper medication.

The dog is in pain, then what is your "brother" looks? Why on earth do you come to JA to get medical advice for the poor dog? We are not veterinarians, and even if we were, no one can diagnose the dog online.

For Gawd's sake, get off your computer and get your poor dog to the vet.

I totally agree with the person above me

NO. He must go to a vet as soon as possible.

the instinct of a dog natural survival is to hide their pain. PLEASE take it in!

If it is significantly inflated, it needs immediate medical attention. The dog is depending on you and you brother to help. ;-(

Take him to the vet ASAP! At the same time, limit its activity and gives it a comfortable place to lay down. You may be able to give him an aspirin, but I would not do it without atleast call the vet first.

inflammatory. For dogs only. Pain relief, anti-inflammatory.
1 tablet per 60 pounds.
2 times per day
Aspirin Buffered
1 tablet per 15 Lbs.
2 times per day

large dogs (50 pounds or more adult weight) tend to be hip dysplasia (sp).
You can try some gloucosamine (many athletes and seniors take to help with arthritis)
I give my dog Nutro deer he has 600 mg gloucosamine already in the food, so I do not need to buy anything extra
It's also the whole human food quality, (which means you can eat!) And it is 100% guaranteed - even for the taste.
But, as 98% of people have already spoken here - a visit to the vet seems in order.
Dogs do not hide their pain a sign of weakness, then, you see, it hurts, it's pretty bad!

interesting ...
