it was (and may still) have loads of caffeine, so I do not think it's a good idea.

Rule of thumb: Too much of anything is not good.

Dristan contains a sedative antihistamine and caffeine. Even the manufacturers do not know how it works.

Aspirin ---- For headache fever
Phenylephrine hydrochloride - Bronchodilator
Chlorpheniramine maleate - Antihistamine
Caffeine --- compensates by removing the side effects of sedation

Caffeine and phynelephrine can kick your BP to dangerous levels ----> intracerebral bleed. Can also cause cardiac arrhythmias.
