Common traumatic injuries in the red mouth (Part 1)

mechanical trauma of the oral mucosa can produce a variety of clinical lesions, depending on the nature and circumstances of the insult. Three common red, flat lesions in the mouth are (1) the erythematous macule and erosion, (2) of purpuric macule, and (3) the phase of the granulomatous inflammatory hyperplasia.

erythematous macules Disorder are produced by a low, chronic physical insult. If the trauma is intensified, the lesions may ulcerate. Common causes include large margins of teeth, restoration of defective and ill-fitting dentures. self-inflicted injuries, such as the cheek biting habits or other trauma can also cause erythematous macules.

The red color of the lesion is usually the result of increased blood flow in the underlying tissues. The loss of part or all of the skin covering also contributes to the measurements of color developed, a thick membrane obscures the background color red, while more color is transmitted through a thin. The degree of redness is also partly based on the amount of hemoglobin pigments present in the region and the extent of its oxygenation. red lesions often have a thin skin that covers numerous dilated and engorged vessels, and therefore they bleed heavily after minimal trauma.

A red color may also be transmitted to tissue by another pigment, melanin. This color can vary from light brown to reddish brown to a bluish black. The reddish brown color is rarely seen in lesions melanin.

The usual places are erythematous macules on the front and side of the tongue, floor of mouth, the back of the mouth, cheek, and the wet surfaces of the mouth. The macules may show considerable variations in the intensity of its red color. The size of the red area corresponds roughly to the size of the traumatic agent. The edges of the lesions are generally not well defined. Symptoms vary from mild tenderness to considerable pain. The causative agent is usually identified, either through the history of the oral examination. The lesion usually disappears quickly after the cause is removed, but if the lesion is located on the tongue, may persist for several weeks and heal as a pink bald area. Because this lesion is essentially inflammatory, may blanch when digital pressure is applied.

There are many lesions in the mouth that have similar clinical presentations. Therefore, when an injury occurs in the red mouth, you should consult your dentist. Your dentist will help determine if the injury is one (1) erythematous macule traumatic, (2) purpuric macule of oral sex, (3) cough palatal bruising due to severe or severe vomiting, (4) macular hemangioma, (5 ) atrophic candidiasis (6), mononucleosis and histoplasmosis, (7) herpangina, (8) erythroplakia, and (9) squamous cell carcinoma.

Once you are diagnosed with erythematous macule, your dentist must identify and eliminate mechanical irritants immediately. The procedures may involve smoothing the sharp edges of broken teeth, replacing defective restorations, straigtening teeth with braces, and adjust ill-fitting dentures. Your lesion is then kept under observation until it disappears. Healing occurs usually in 3 or 4 days. If the lesion does not disappear in 10 days, additional stock should be done. A biopsy may be performed then to rule on serious conditions such as erythroplakia, squamous cell carcinoma, and fungal diseases such as candidiasis and histoplasmosis.
