After taking Evista for five years for breast cancer Her2 developed osteoporosis. Femara is the best choice today? The cancer was removed and had not spread to lymph nodes. Approximately six weeks of radiation therapy was done and now she is ready for the next step.
I did not take Evista. However, I took Femara. I was diagnosed with invasive ductal carcinoma in November 2006. No lymph node involvement did not have chemo or radiotherapy. Have had mastectomy. Since tumor was estrogen / progestone HER2-positive, and I was menopausal, I was put on Arimidex first. terrible side effects, could not tolerate for six weeks.
Oncologist put me on Femara. Gave him a shot for four months. Thus, disabling that I almost finished in a wheelchair. Thus both Arimidex and cause loss of bone density caused Femara and osteoarthritis.
Currently I am taking Aromasin is an aromatase inhibitor third. A side effect, but is tolerable. It also makes the loss of bone density and many other problems.
Go to Drugs.com for more details on side effects of these drugs. Then talk to your oncologist and make a decision.
What is Herceptin? It is now used for Phase 1 in British Columbia.
www. breastcancer.org is an excellent site with lots of info. There is also a support site Herceptin (do not remember the exact address). You'll get much better answers to one of them.
