High Blood Sugar Levels

Posted on March 11, 2010.
High Blood Sugar LevelsHigh blood glucose levels and ER stress

Scientific publications have recently been abuzz about ER stress or ER stress. In cells, the endoplasmic reticulum is a kind of protector Almighty. Multiple studies have shown that ER stress is always present in people with diabetes, and can therefore be used to indicate the start of insulin resistance or type 2 diabetes. "In the presence of chronic ER stress, as we see in obesity, the effect of ER stress on metabolic regulation would lead to the development of insulin resistance and ultimately type 2 diabetes." This quote is from an article published in the journal Science in October 2004.

In diabetes (types 1, 2 and gestational), damage caused by high levels of sugar in the blood can sometimes or often lead to a long list of complications scary. When the body resistant to insulin or diabetic or stops producing its own insulin altogether, the glycemic control is impossible without the injection of insulin and / or oral medications. But even with insulin and / or oral medication, the levels of sugar in the blood are still high inevitably over time and cause vascular damage, which causes heart disease, stroke, neuropathy, the kidney disease, amputations and other serious complications. But scientists have only recently discovered that the damage caused by high levels of sugar in the blood that affects a diabetic at the cellular level and affects all body cells.

The significance of this new discovery may be that if we find ways to treat and reverse the ER stress, it might be possible to prevent some, if not all, cases of type 2 diabetes. Some early studies have actually shown that alpha-lipoic acid may be one of the most useful agents in the fight against cellular damage. According to a study published in December 2008: "Deficit LASY [Lipoic Acid Synthase results / Alpha Lipoic] Acid global disturbance of network antioxidant defense, leading to increased inflammation, insulin resistance, and dysfunction mitochondria.

Most Western physicians, however, do not recommend ALA or other natural supplements as a way to treat diabetes. However, while insulin and oral medications are effective in treating blood sugar issues, they do very little, if anything, to address cellular and tissue damage caused by high levels of sugar in the blood. In fact, most oral medications prescribed for the treatment of type 2 diabetes have actually been shown to heart disease. Thus, it is extremely important for people living with diabetes to recognize the dangers of the whole body due to diabetes and to adopt a proactive approach to try to counter these dangers.

For people living with diabetes, the use of supplements that include alpha-lipoic acid as an ingredient may have significant advantages. Besides helping to control blood sugar, herbs and other natural agents such as colostrum and ALA has been shown to support the functionality of the immune system, helping to cause cell regeneration and promote healing of wounds. Although the effects of ER stress are still under consideration, the fact is that diabetes affects more than the amount of sugar in the blood is a disease of the entire body and should be treated as such.
