Intestinal Polyps

A common symptom is rectal bleeding. The blood may be bright or dark red depending on the location of the polyp.
Some polyps, usually larger, can lead to leakage of large amounts of mucus from the anus.

The symptoms of intestinal polyps

Many polyps are asymptomatic, the lesion, the more it is likely to cause symptoms. Rectal bleeding is by far the most common complaint. The blood is bright red or dark red, depending on the location of the polyp, and bleeding is usually intermittent.

Most polyps are too small to cause problems, but if they are larger than 1 cm (0.4 inches) or malignant will be symptomatic. You may experience diarrhea or constipation lasting more than a week (constipation due to obstruction of the colon), fresh blood in the stool and / or bleeding from the rectum (blood on toilet paper). Sometimes the bleeding may not be obvious - that's what we call "occult" blood, which means "hidden".
