Iron Filter

I moved into a house with an iron filter existing. last owner thought it was a softener and used potassium chloride instead of potassium permanganate. The reservoir is a bunch of solid chloride, but my concern is for the resin bed. It does not seem to filter out the iron. Any way I can fix?
