Posted on February 12, 2010.
Ischiogluteal BursitisDr. Wei ... What types of bursitis are they?

In a previous article, I discussed what bursitis is and why it develops. In this article I will discuss some of the most common types of arthritis. Let's start from the top and work down.

In the shoulder there is a large stock exchange called subdeltoid. This seat in the deltoid muscle which lies on the side of the upper arm at the shoulder. This is called the subacromial bursa. Bursitis in this field is pain in the shoulder pain that is aggravated by movement. Pain is present during the night too. Hyperactivity is a common cause and is aware of the rotator cuff tendinitis to coexist with this type of bursitis.

The scholarship is olecrenon at the tip of the elbow. Bursitis can develop as a result of excessive pressure AA (eg, based on the elbow on a hard surface) or after a major injury. A complication of this type of bursitis is that it may be infected. The organism usually associated with septic bursitis is Staphylococcus aureus. The treatment of septic bursitis is to drain the affected stock and treat with antibiotics. Oral antibiotics usually antibiotics intravenously, but it is sometimes necessary.

The hip is an area where a number of different types of bursitis may occur. Prolonged sitting on a hard surface leads to ischiogluteal bursitis. It is a throbbing type of bursitis located in the gluteal region.

Pectineus bursitis is located in the groin area and is aggravated by walking, running and climbing stairs.

Trochanteric bursitis is located outside of the hip. This type of bursitis occurs often in overweight people and is aggravated by walking, climbing stairs, and lying on the affected side.

Gluteus medius bursitis resembles a trochanteric bursitis. The location is usually a little later than the trochanteric bursa.

Bursitis in the knee may be located either in front of the patella (prepatellar bursitis) or just below the knee within the upper part of the lower leg bone (tibia). This is called bursitis anserina. Prepatellar bursitis, as is the case with bursitis olecrenon may become septic.

Bursitis in the ankle may occur at the heel in the achilles tendon. Usually hyperactivity such as running too much can cause this type of bursitis. Rest, ice, and sometimes anti-inflammatory drugs are useful. Steroid injections should be used with great caution in this area because of the possibility of a weakening of the Achilles tendon. This may lead to tendon rupture.

Bursitis occurs at the base of the fifth toe is called bursitis and bunionette opccurring on the side of the great toe is called a bunion. Osteoarthritis is the underlying cause of bursitis usual. special padding and injections of glucocorticoids are useful treatments.

Patients with inflammatory diseases such as gout or rheumatoid arthritis may also develop bursitis. Any patient with recurrent bursitis should be assessed for an underlying condition that may be predisposing to bursitis.

The diagnosis of bursitis and treatment is not easy. A rheumatologist or orthopedist well qualified to be consulted. If the injection is needed, the needle ultrasound guidance is recommended.
