Rimadyl Side Effects

My eight months. puppy almost died from being prescribed Rimadyl. I know that the effects only 0.02% of dogs in this way sick, but has anyone experienced this with their dog?

My dog died of grandmothers at the age of 7 renal failure and was on Rimadyl. I think that's what killed her, but of course no vet will admit that.

All I can say I have a chihuahua who had broken his leg in two places and the vet prescribed Rimadyl for her. It was only on it for a short period, but she never had bad experiences or reactions to it.

My dog was on Rimadyl for some time, and after completing his dose, I started hearing all these terrible things that happened to dogs while taking this drug! I am sooo glad we did not happen, but I am very aware from now, if we ever need pain medication again! Thank you for bringing this attention, especially for people who do not know yet! Because it was after the fact, when I learned about potential adverse effects!

I did not know, I do not give my dog anything without checking it out thoroughly first .. Metacam is the one that has caused many problems in certain breeds .. Always check the warnings and side effects before blindly giving your dog medication, even by the veterinarian. It is not always aware of the fact that different breeds can have problems with different drugs .. Unfortunately.

I know that Rimadyl can have serious side effects, but have never been prescribed for my dog. As is usually prescribed for arthritis, why your puppy used?

Yes, well aware of how it affects some dogs - our help is no longer used, there are pain medications much safer.
I use Metacam for dogs with bone pain, arthritis, calcified discs, etc.
Ask your veterinarian to enhance drug safety.

What are the side effects? You do not say. Both my dogs have been prescribed it occasionally (knee surgery, etc. etc.) and have been very good. My vet took a blood test before prescribing to ensure that there is no pre-existing conditions that can create problems.

Someone had a dog get liver or kidney failure from this drug. I believe that the dog eventually died of the medication because it made a kidney or liver.

You bet! There are websites about the side effects of this drug. I refuse to give my animals. Long ago, it was prescribed for my Sheltie for arthritis and has lifted for a week. Ironically one of the symptoms of side effects bad. God thank you, I had the sense to stop giving it to her before she did more damage. There are many people trying to get this drug from, but because it is a drug for "just dogs", they arent get much support.

Haley: Some of the more serious side effects are liver and kidney failure. Many of these serious side effects are not curable. You can google complaints Rimadyl and come with all sorts of horror stories of dog owners.
