Ulcerative Colitis In Children

Posted on February 14, 2010.
Ulcerative Colitis In ChildrenUlcerative colitis in children.?

My son was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis in February 8th, 2006. It was three years. We had many long stays in hospital since. April 4, 2006, he had a toxic megacolon. We have not had antyhing that serious since then. Whenever it appears to be getting better, he fell ill. Is that the disease is never easy? The drug is currently are Pentasa and prednisone. He was on Imuran but has caused his pancreas to become imflammed. He has been on prednisone since April. We always try it out Ween steroids but it does not do without them. The doctor said the next step is Remicade. Does anyone have experience with this? If you have struggled with ulcerative colitis or Crohn's disease please respond to any information. Thank you.

I have ulcerative colitis. I was diagnosed 4 years ago and I have been fighting the symptoms. I tried almost every drug for this disease, but nothing helped. I am currently azasan, Asacol and Remicade infusions. When I started taking Remicade it seemed to help, but now I am still contstantly inflamed. There is always blood in my stool and constant pain. I'd say I'm nearly 25 trips to the bathroom every day. Remicade can be the answer for you, but it does not help me.

I have dealt with ulcerative colitis for almost three years. It is a relentless, something horrible. Last year, I tried two sessions of acupuncture and my symptoms have since disappeared and never came back. I hope you explore this option. Report Abuse

I work with a rheumatologist and we infuse Remicade in the office. The most signigicant is having an allergic reaction. In general, we give these people and solumedrol IV Benedryl. Otherwise, you must be very careful with infections. If you have a urinary tract infection, sinus infection or a cut, Remicade administered shortly after it can cause major infections. Mostly we use the rule of not getting Remicade for two weeks after the end of antibiotics.

It is a very good drug and I've seen miracles because virtually patients.

I hope that side effects will scare you to try. Please let me know how it goes for you!
